This is insane! Anyone who denies that Japan’s crisis isn’t going to become a worldwide problem is being naïve. Why aren’t the world’s nations doing something more to help these poor people?! Why are we just spending money we don’t have to try to put a band aid on a gaping wound? Yes, the U.S, is in financial crisis; but I think we have more important things to consider (like future food, shelter, water—basic necessities) than sending more of our navy 100+ miles from Japan’s borders to watch them fall and suffer. I say the countries of the world need to offer refuge and asylum to any Japanese citizens who want to leave. Yes, if there is a nuclear meltdown we’ll probably all be in trouble; but why are we not trying to evacuate innocent people from the immediate threat?
We have a lot of foreclosed homes in the U.S. that are sitting empty. I say, open up these abandoned dwellings for some Japanese families until we can figure something else out. Abandoned homes aren’t doing the banks or anyone else any good anyway. Ask other countries to open their borders as well. And don’t say we already have an “immigrant problem” in the U.S. Offer these poor souls a place to escape-legally! How many people enter our country ILLEGALLY every day for asylum?! We don’t have to take all $127 + million people, but for crying out loud: let’s do something!!!!! Evacuate at least the women, children, and frail while we try to contain this problem. Who’s with me here?
